freelance web designer.

Anyone can build you a beautiful website. But a beautiful website that is built exactly to your requirements, and designed to grow your business with user experience at its heart? That is a different story.

intelligent web design.

I build websites in WordPress, the world’s most popular and commonly used CMS (Content Management System). Roughly a third of the websites on the internet run on WordPress. Why? Because it is easy to use and offers an almost limitless amount of customisations so I can make the website your business wants and needs. That’s where intelligent web design comes in. A lot of web designers begin with the aesthetic, and then try and retrofit the functionality, if they try at all.  I start the other way around. I start by asking about the bigger picture; what does your business do? How is your website performing for you now? How do you want it to perform? Is it set up to achieve your business objectives? Only once those necessities are clear do we get into the creative and visual design solutions.

the process.

A clear process is essential to any web design project. Here is my ten step process, with an optional eleventh should you so wish.

  • defining the project.

Whether it is filling out my questionnaire or scheduling in a call or Zoom, the first and most essential step in our journey together is me finding out about you and your goals for your website.

  • project scope.

Once we've had our discussion to discover your wishes and requirements, I will come back to you within 24 hours with a fully costed, no obligation proposal.

  • agree scope.

If you're happy with the proposal I have provided, you will be able to put your e-signature on it. At this stage a 50% retainer is due, with the final instalment only due once your site is live.

  • wireframe and site architecture.

The first thing I will do is conduct thorough keyword research to understand what additional pages you might require, and then build this into a wireframe; there are three rounds of feedback for this stage so you can be happy that your site is going to be structured in the most effective way possible to give your users the best possible experience, whilst also taking advantage of as much relevant organic site traffic as possible.

  • visual design.

Let's face it, this is where things get really interesting. Based on project definition, I will come back to you with three mock-ups of your homepage. Again there will be three rounds of feedback so that you are absolutely happy with the proposed look and feel of your site.

  • site development.

I then build your site on a secure test server that only you have access to. Again, there will be three rounds of feedback for the site so you have absolute satisfaction with how your new website looks and functions.

  • site testing.

Before your site goes live, I'll test every element of it to ensure that it looks great and functions perfectly on any device. This is the least exciting but most important step in the process.

  • launch.

Everyone uses the rocket icon for launch, don't they? I can't think of a better one because the big day arrives and your site is now live and out there for the world to see.

  • site maintenance.

Regardless of whether you choose a hosting and maintenance package with me, for 30 days after your site launches I'll be available to you to maintain your site and answer any questions you might have.

  • optional digital marketing.

If you have chosen to use my add-on digital marketing consultancy services to help drive relevant traffic to your site and help to grow your business, I will begin this element of the project.
